Applying to Jobs

Are you applying to jobs you know you qualify for, but not getting a reply? Maybe it's your resume. We all know the interview gets you the job, but a well written resume gets you the interview! Your resume may be your first impression so it needs to be as professional as you are.

Consider follow-up a strategic part of your job search process. This can give you the edge over others being considered for a position. Some employers will only consider applicants who follow-up. Another good reason to follow-up is make sure the prospective employer is aware that you are interested in a position at their company. Many times an email was never received or your resume happened to slip by unseen.

Put an attractive title in your profile! Unemployed or Homemaker are certainly not appealing to prospective employers. Instead, include your last held position, or a title that relates to your experience if you are not currently working. After all, getting employers to look at your resume is half the battle.

Make sure your resume is easy to find. Include keywords in the "Industry Skills" field that relate to your qualifications or objective, keep in mind that other parts of the country may refer to your current job title by a different name. Customer Service can also mean Finance and Insurance.
